Frequently asked questions

Who we are

Bike-Packer promotes and makes bicycle travel in Belgium accessible to those wishing to take up cycle touring. We want to remove as many barriers as possible so that people can take the plunge and travel by bike. To achieve this, we offer a range of services at affordable prices, including

  • bike and pannier rentals.
  • training courses (on mechanics, creating itineraries or what to take with you)
  • bike travel events
  • turnkey itineraries(roadbooks)
  • individualized trip planning assistance.

Our ASBL is part of a slow-travel approach, promoting Belgian heritage and sustainable, eco-responsible travel. What’s more, we’d like to develop inclusive projects for a wide variety of audiences.

Here are some of the values we keep at the heart of our concerns:

  • Inclusivity: We want to make our services as accessible as possible, both in financial and social terms.
  • Sustainable commitment: We’re convinced that we can do our bit for a more sustainable society.
  • Adventure: Cycling is about being autonomous and taking responsibility, while retaining a touch of the adventurous and the unexpected.

Rental

On our rental page. Indicate departure and return dates, bike type and size. Once you’ve entered all these parameters, you’ll see whether the bike is available.

If the bike is available, you can click on ‘check-out’ and you will be asked to pay.

Check that you have specified the bike size. If not, the bike is automatically marked as unavailable.

If it remains unavailable, it’s because they’re all rented by that date, but there may still be options left:

  • Sometimes it’s worth playing with the date. Renting a bike a few hours later will make it available.
  • If you’re between bike sizes, see if a bike of the other size is available.
  • If you don’t mind riding a different type of bike from the one you had in mind, see if these are available.

Don’t hesitate to contact us if you need any advice.

Of course we do! You are welcome to visit us during opening hours. For a better service, we recommend that you contact us to make an appointment.

The sooner, the better. In high season, some items are very popular.

Reservations must be made at least 3 days before departure via the website. If you want to organize a last-minute adventure, it’s possible, but please contact us.

  • Trekking bikes (with high or low bar)

This steel bike is comfortable, reliable and dynamic. Its flat handlebars make it accessible to all.

They are INTEC t07. All technical info about the bike is here

  • Touring bikes

These bikes have the same features as the “trekking” bike, except that they have road handlebars. This suits people who like a more dynamic riding position.

These are INTEC FO10 Randonneur bikes. All technical info about the bike is here

  • Gravels

Like the randonneuses, these bikes have road handlebars and are made of steel. The difference is that they have bigger tires, a more supine position and no luggage rack. Ideal for short-distance riders and those who want to travel light.

It’s not possible to fit ‘classic’ rear panniers on this bike, but we rent bikepacking bags that hook onto the saddle and frame.

They are Kona Rove.

  • 2 electric bikes

These bikes have electric assistance, which means less effort is required to move forward.

They are Batavia Dinsdag e-GO.

  • 1 PINO tandem

This tandem isn’t a classic tandem – it’s much more dynamic! The person guiding the bike is at the rear, and the person in front pedals in a semi-recumbent position.

Not only does this make it a pleasure to ride, but the people are close to each other for easy conversation. It’s also suitable for people with various disabilities.

What’s more, the position of the front pedals can be adjusted. This makes it adaptable to all heights – even children – and more transportable on the train (although we advise you to check this with the train companies).

It has two separate derailleurs, so everyone can pedal at their own pace!

It’s a Hasebike Pino.

Electric bikes are equipped with batteries with a high capacity of 500 wh.
How many kilometers this translates into depends on a number of parameters:
If you ride in eco mode with little gradient, you can reach 150 km. If, on the other hand, you switch to turbo mode with a lot of gradient, it’s possible that after a good thirty kilometers the battery will be flat. Let’s say that in touring mode with a moderate gradient, you can easily do 70/80 km.

This depends on the type of bike/saddlebag and the rental period. Prices are on a sliding scale. The longer you rent, the less you pay per day. Feel free to make a simulation on the website.

As a non-profit organization, we do our best to make prices accessible to all, taking into account our operating costs. If you have a cycling project with a more disadvantaged public, don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss it.
